A garbage collector, also known as a refuse collector, is responsible for collecting household and commercial waste from designated locations, loading it onto a garbage truck, and transporting it to a landfill or recycling center, ensuring proper disposal of waste while adhering to safety regulations and maintaining a designated collection route. The duties for these positions are picking up residential garbage for approx. 400 houses a day. There are three people on each truck, one driver and 2 tippers. Each truck picks up approximately 22,000 pounds of garbage a day. No driving until hired on permanently. If the route isn’t finished on time, overtime will be required. Heavy Lifting is involved. The hours for this position are Monday through Friday from 6:30 am to 2:30 pm. The rate of pay is $16.04 hourly.
