Location: Louisville, KY
Pay Rate: $25.35 – $31.35 per hour
Schedule: 1st Shift | Monday–Friday | 6:00 AM – 2:00 PM

About the Metallurgical Weld Engineer Role
Crown Staffing is seeking a skilled Metallurgical Weld Engineer to support welding operations in an automotive manufacturing environment. This role focuses on the development, validation, and continuous improvement of welding processes—including GMAW, magnetic arc welding, and friction welding—while ensuring compliance with customer, engineering, quality, and safety standards.
The ideal candidate will collaborate cross-functionally with engineering, operations, quality, union leadership, and launch teams to drive operational excellence and support new product introductions.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and oversee all validation testing for GMAW, magnetic arc welding, and friction welding
- Develop, validate, and maintain welding process parameters and controls
- Provide metallurgical and technical support to welding operations and MET lab activities
- Review weld metallurgical test results and analyze trends in weld data
- Create, maintain, and manage weld evaluation documentation and reports
- Support new product launches by developing compliant process parameters
- Recommend engineering and manufacturing improvements to meet design and cost objectives
- Lead and support continuous improvement initiatives using DOS tools and methodology
- Reduce scrap, downtime, and defects while improving safety, quality, and productivity
- Ensure on-time implementation of engineering changes
- Collaborate with internal launch teams, customer engineering teams, and SQE representatives
- Support End-of-Line (EOL) activities and Diamond Board processes
- Adhere to all Quality, Safety, Environmental, and DOS standards
- Coordinate with area managers, union stewards, lab technicians, and leadership
- Perform additional duties as assigned by management
Required Skills & Knowledge
- Strong knowledge of metallurgical principles related to welding
- Experience with APQP, SPC, PFMEA, Control Plans, PPAP, TS-16949
- Proficiency with GD&T, tolerance stack-up analysis, and gage design
- Experience with gage R&R studies and fixture follow-up
- Familiarity with automotive customer systems (e.g., Covisint)
- Understanding of plant manufacturing processes
- Experience using PLM databases and CompliantPro
- Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Education & Experience Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in a technical field (Engineering, Metallurgy, Materials Science, or similar)
OR - 5+ years of engineering experience in an automotive parts manufacturing environment
Physical & Mental Demands
- Ability to work extended hours as needed
- Periodic travel required
- International travel may be required (valid passport required)
