Steel Slitter Operator Requirements/Qualifications
- Minimum of 3–5 years of experience operating a steel slitting line in a metal processing or steel service center environment.
- Strong knowledge of slitting line setup, tooling, coil processing, and inspection procedures.
- Ability to accurately read and use a tape measure.
- Ability to use calipers, micrometers, and other precision measuring instruments.
- Experience operating overhead cranes and forklifts preferred.
- Ability to interpret production orders, work instructions, and technical specifications.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
- Excellent attention to detail and commitment to quality.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. regularly.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, and perform physical tasks throughout the shift.
- Dependable, punctual, and willing to learn new skills.
- Ability to work independently and effectively as part of a team.
- Must be fluent in English with the ability to understand and communicate workplace instructions.
- Comfortable working in a manufacturing environment with noise, moving equipment, and varying temperatures.
About the Steel Slitter Operator Role
As a Steel Slitter Operator, your responsibilities will include:
- Set up, operate, and monitor steel slitting equipment according to production requirements.
- Read and interpret work orders, specifications, and production schedules.
- Verify coil dimensions, material grades, and customer requirements before processing.
- Perform tooling setups, knife changes, and equipment adjustments to achieve required slit widths and tolerances.
- Inspect finished material for width, edge condition, coil appearance, and packaging requirements.
- Monitor machine performance and make adjustments to maximize productivity and minimize scrap.
- Safely operate overhead cranes, forklifts, and other material-handling equipment.
- Complete production reports, quality documentation, and inventory records accurately.
- Perform routine equipment inspections and basic preventative maintenance.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
- Follow company safety procedures and OSHA requirements.
- Perform additional production duties as assigned.
