Launch Engineer Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in engineering, program management, or a related field
- Up to three years of automotive manufacturing, engineering, or process experience
- Solid understanding of manufacturing principles and industrialization processes
- Knowledge of automotive components
- Familiarity with manufacturing process capability and product-development processes
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and other office-automation software
- Strong project coordination and cross-functional communication skills
- Ability to organize launch activities, track deliverables, and resolve issues
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality
- High level of responsibility, organization, and follow-through
Key Responsibilities
- Manage launches for global projects, cross-region projects, cross-business-unit projects, and relocation projects.
- Coordinate equipment, tooling, and inspection fixtures upon arrival at the manufacturing facility.
- Work closely with project managers throughout product development and industrialization.
- Ensure launch activities comply with established project-management processes.
- Conduct regular global launch reviews and monitor project deliverables.
- Identify launch risks and implement controls to support successful project completion.
- Improve communication and collaboration across regions, business units, and departments.
- Review critical launch items and help control project costs.
- Identify resource needs and coordinate resource allocation.
- Form and lead launch teams during trial production and production ramp-up.
- Coordinate part-quality planning throughout the launch process.
- Track incoming-material concerns, engineering changes, and internal or external quality issues.
- Lead regular trial-production meetings involving manufacturing, tooling, equipment, engineering, and quality teams.
- Track production-capacity improvements, including cycle-time optimization, operator development, and process-layout improvements.
- Coordinate internal two-trial production approvals.
- Organize document approvals and submissions for supplier and customer PPAP and project acceptance.
- Track and resolve customer-side concerns involving incoming materials, vehicle assembly, road testing, and audits.
- Perform additional project and engineering duties assigned by the supervisor.
